Reservoir Tavern

We were craving some Italian food but something that was cheaper but still good. We were also in NJ. So we went to Reservoir Tavern in Parsippany, NJ. We've been here before and liked it very much. It was about time we paid another visit. The place is small but it's always packed. It seems family owned and everyone knows each other. The bartenders are women who've been there for awhile. They recognize regulars right away. They'll charm you and still give you a good drink. There's always a wait there. It's quite popular. This time, we waited for about 30 minutes. Just enough time to have a drink and relax. The place isn't fancy at all. A lot of people would call it a dive. But it has character. It's not about the decorations. It's about the food and the friendliness of the people there. Once at our table, we browsed through the menu. Our waitress was a friendly and quick young blond girl. She knew her way around and didn't make any mistakes. I ordered the stuffed calamari ($8) which was a special appetizer that night. It was stuffed with crabmeat. I received 3 on a piping hot plate with sauce. They were fantastic. The crab was soft and flavorful. The calamari was cooked perfectly. Not chewy at all. He ordered the stuff mushrooms ($7). Again, piping hot but so flavorful. I forget what was the stuffing but it wasn't just bread crumbs. You could also taste the garlic and other ingredients. They were just good. About 5-6 came in an order. Next, I ordered the homemade gnocchi in amatriciana sauce ($13). I'm always skeptical about gnocchi at places. It's hit or miss. And when it misses, it's pretty bad. But the Reservoir Tavern made them so soft and pillowy. They were so good that I ate the whole plate. The sauce was good with the tomatoes and bacon. He ordered the homemade sausage, peppers, onions, and potatoes ($14.75). The sausage was really good. You can tell that it wasn't store bought. It just tasted different. The peppers and onions weren't mushy. That's a good thing. And the fried potatoes on the bottom just soaked up all the flavors and juices. So good! As a side dish, we ordered some toasties ($0.75 each + $2 for sauce). These are fried meatballs. They're to die for! I always get these when I come here. Any extra are always packed up for the next day. This place was another great meal. The food was fantastic and cheap. The service was attentive and quick. Our waitress was friendly and joked with us. I can't remember why it's taken me so long to go back...oh wait, yeah it's in NJ. Reservoir Tavern 92 Parsippany Boulevard Parsippany, NJ 07054 (973) 334-5708 mypizza-store.com
