I was recently invited to watch a West Point football game. So off I went early in the morning to join some friends for some tailgating, drinking, and football watching. When we arrived, it was still very early and cold. We all warmed up by drinking beers. Hahah! Oh well.
When it started to get warm with the sun on our backs, the food started opening up. First up, some 6-feet long heroes. Love these! There were two that were rotated. One was salami and the other was turkey. I enjoyed both.
Then the grills started heating up. The friendly tailgating organizers manned the grill. Burgers and dogs were coming off cooked and hot in a stead stream.
And I quickly grabbed some. There's a regular burger, a hot dog, and some broccoli slaw. Not bad. The buns got a little stale in the cold weather. But I didn't care. I was cold, needed food and nourishment.
After the meal, we headed into the stadium to watch the game. Once satiated with our football watching, we headed back to the tailgating area. Set up were some meat roll ups and cheese with crackers.
More importantly, new food hit the table. Here's some Italian sausage with peppers and onions. Nice and greasy. Helped fill the void in my stomach and soak up some of that beer.
Some barbecue chicken which made a really good sandwich.
And some chicken in white wine sauce. Woah! Fancy! Not too bad but a little bland in my opinion. But I didn't care. I was happy and grateful for these people and their hard work.
There's just something about football and food. It just goes so well together.
