Taim Mobile

Sometimes a food truck comes along that peeks my interest so much that I make a special trip to visit it.The Taim truck was certainly such a truck. Every blog and food focused website that I've been ready has been talking about this truck that's serving up some really great falafel and Israeli food. I'm always looking for something different to eat so I trekked out one day to see what it was all about.

I arrived at the truck before 12noon and people were already standing in line. No biggie, not really enough to make me leave. About 5 people were ahead of me. As I stood there and studied the menu, a huge line started forming behind me. Wow, this truck is really popular. By the time I ordered and stood on the side to wait for my food, the line was at least 30 people deep. I was glad I had arrived as early as I did. Waiting in line is not something I'm good at. Many times, it's what deters me from trying new places/food trucks.

I heard many good things about their sabich sandwich so I was really happy to see it on their special menu that day ($7). The sandwich was heavy and larger than a dollar bill in diameter.
I peeled the foil away and was presented with this. A sliced hard boiled egg, fried eggplant and various vegetables. All this was wrapped in a pita with their hummus sauce which melted nicely from the heat.
This is certainly a messy sandwich and you're going to want it eat it while still wrapped in the foil. So how did it taste? Really good. Everything just really worked well together and each bite was happily received by my taste buds. By the end of the sandwich, my hands were covered in hummus and my stomach full.
And yet I still had the side of falafel ($3.50) to eat. Oh man, I needed a slight breather but I didn't want to let these get cold. So I pushed forward and ate them slowly one by one.
First a dip into the accompanying tahini sauce.
Then into my mouth. Wow, the color of the inside is a remarkable green. The taste? Really nice. The combination of chickpeas and herbs (most likely cilantro) really tasted good and the really crunchy crust was appreciated. This was a well executed falafel. I wish I wasn't as full from the sabich sandwich so that I could really enjoy these more.
Taim offered me some really good Israeli food and I would definitely go back for some more. The only deterrent is the line. Good for them, bad for me. Hah!

  2. Their food made me vomit. But i primarily blame that on their nasty cous cous. NEVER get a platter there! Their falafal was ok. Hummus was ok too. I still won't be going back, but it's edible...
