My Trip to Richmond, VA (Part 7): Hondo's

For our last meal, we went all out and went to a steakhouse, Hondo's. It was a meal for the adults and it was really nice. It was pretty empty, again from the holiday weekend, but also because it was a Sunday night.

Lucky for us, Sunday night dinner also means 1/2 all wines. Yes, please! We had Stag's Leap Wine Cellar red wine which was very nice. They have a really good wine list so if you're into that, this would be a nice place for you.

We didn't order any appetizers because all steaks come with a salad and side of choice. Awesome! The boys started with the ice berg wedge salad. I think they enjoyed except for the lack of bacon. Too bad. But the actual crumbles of blue cheese was a nice touch.
I had the house salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Romaine lettuce with radishes, carrots, cucumbers, and croutons. A simple salad to start the meal.
For our entrees, one person had the Chesapeake Bay Lump Crab cakes ($34) which looked fantastic. Each crab cake was 4oz and just filled with crab meat.
The rest of the party ordered steaks. I had the Cowboy Cut Ribeye Steak ($44) which was 18oz of beefy goodness.
Was it cooked to my liking? Oh yes siree! Delicious. Well cooked, well seasoned, juicy, and flavorful. I was a very happy camper.
For our sides, we had a mix of Hondo's potatoes which were like potato au gratin but with a lot more cheese! It was awesome! However, with the steak, it was too much more. I switched my side with Mr. M&P.
He had the garlic mashers which were really good as well. Lots of garlic flavor but without being really heavy like Hondo potatoes.
We shared a dessert at the end. It was the molten chocolate cake which was really nice and gooey in the middle. It was served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and berries. A nice end to a good meal. Everyone was super happy and full.
Hondo's Steakhouse was really good. The service was superb, the wine nice, and meal terrific. I would absolutely go back again, if not for the food, then for Mr. M&P's doppelganger.

  1. Wow, looks like a really delicious dinner and molten chocolate cake!!

Man, that's a lot of white sauce on that wedge.
Ride that cowboy to flavor country!

Is his doppelganger a fertility specialist, Mexican Wrestler or just a guy with a mustache?
