Whitmans

I first about Whitmans when talk about the juicy lucy burger came up. It's a cheese stuffed burger that originated in Minneapolis. The cheese becomes molten when cooked and the burger is infused with melted goodness. So when I had the opportunity to go to Whitmans to try it out, I sure knew to bring my friend TC with me. Mmm, burgers.

When we got there, there is a small table upstairs which we sat and more seating downstairs. We looked over the menu but we both knew we would get the Juicy Lucy ($10). Their version had beef short rib blended meat with pimento cheese in the middles. It's served with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, spicy pickle, and special sauce. The burger comes as is without any sides. Look at the nice crust on that patty. The buns were nicely toasted and the vegetable fresh. The onions could have used more caramelizing though.
I put the burger together and bit into it. Oh yeah, be careful because the cheese may burn out. Luckily, it didn't scorch either one of us. The cheese indeed was melted and gooey. I snapped this picture before the cheese decided to escape from its meaty prison. Overall, the burger was very good. Well seasoned meat, and nice crust. The cheese inside may seem gimmicky but it tasted great. The only gripe I have is that the burger wasn't the same size as the bun. I don't like the edges to be uneven.
For our sides, we had crack kale ($4) which was really good. I think they deep fried this. It was so crunchy and so delicious. The seasoning was great. Even as I type this post up, I'm drooling. Yes, this kale was really good.
I also ordered blue cheese fries ($5) and was overwhelming. I like blue cheese, mind you, but this was intense. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The sauce was so fragrant and pungent. I ate some but had to stop a while after. I just couldn't take more. You must really love blue cheese to eat all of this. It tasted good but was just too much for me personally.
I really enjoyed Whitmans. The food was good and the service very nice. The place is small but cozy. It's a great neighborhood place.
