Capizzi

A few months ago, the Feisty Foodie, Fritos and Foie Gras, and I went on a girls' night out. We were thinking pizza and beer. Due to some mishaps, our date was postponed until not too long ago. We picked Capizzi for the location and intrigue. Neither one of us have visited this pizza place before and yet we were all curious about it.

We arrived to a fairly empty restaurant but it was very early (6pm or so) and a weeknight. (Side note: it did fill up by the end of our meal.) Once we all sat down, we ordered two pizzas to share. The first, was the Loaded Pie ($25) with provolone cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, roasted peppers, garlic, and fresh oregano. And while the other girls enjoyed this pie more due to its heftiness and array of ingredients, I was more satisfied with the next pie. I thought this one had to much going on to appreciate any one topping.
And this is the Prosciutto and Arugula Pie ($25) with prosciutto di parma, arugula, parmigiano reggiano, and olive oil. I enjoyed the saltiness of the meat paired with the bitter freshness of the arugula and the sharp nuttiness of the cheese. Everything was just very well balanced.
And here's an up-skirt of the bottom. A brown char but no black spots. It could have used some more time in the oven for crispiness. The crust was softer and thicker than I would have expected/liked.
Overall, Capizzi was just okay. Sure they use quality ingredients on their pizza pies but the size was too small and the price was too high. Each pie was more personal sized and the price didn't warrant the taste. If I were to pay $25 for a personal sized pie, then it better excite my taste buds. Unfortunately, it didn't. It merely just satisfied them.

With the lack of good pizza places near me, I wouldn't completely write off Capizzi but I'm also not rushing to go back there.

  1. $25 is ridiculous for a personal pizza. I'll stick to Motorino.

  2. Motorino isn't inexpensive but Capizzi makes them out to be a better deal. Heck, I'm sure I can split a pie at Motorino AND enjoy some S'Mac next door too. :P
