Landmark Tavern, Revisited

One of our favorite places in the neighborhood is Landmark Tavern. It's a pub with a lot of history like being one of the oldest continuously operating establishments in NYC. It's out of the way for most people but the friendly service and good food keep us going back.
We had no agenda one night and decided to go in for some dinner. The place was pretty crowded which made us happy. Most people were there for drinks but they don't realize that the food is good too.

I felt like having some beef that day and ordered the Grilled Sirloin Steak ($26) with bordelais sauce along with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The steak was cooked to my liking at medium rare and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes were really smooth and buttery. The steamed vegetables were mediocre but not overcooked. No mushiness here. I was happy about that.
Mr. M&P had the namesake Landmark Gourmet Burger ($12) made with prime beef cooked to your liking covered in the cheese of your choice. You also have the option of caramelize onions and/or sauteed mushrooms. The side of fresh burger toppings and crispy fries garnished the other side of the plate. This is a hefty pub style burger. Big, thick, and juicy. Charred outside, pink inside. The fries can be hit or miss but they were a hit today. Fried well and seasoned. An unsalted and limpy french fry is just sad.
We both happily ate our dishes and practically finished everything off. Simple good pub food. That's what we wanted. That's what we got. And good service to boot. It's no wonder we keep going back.
