Korilla BBQ

For one of the few times that I don't bring lunch, I make the most of it. I scour the internet for food trucks that I haven't tried yet and make sure to walk over to scope it out. I've had my eye on Korilla BBQ for a while now. I know they've received many good reviews which has led to long lines. Getting some food when they first appeared on the scene seemed impossible. However, my long wait was rewarded. On this day, I walk up to the truck and only saw a short line. Yes! That doesn't mean they're not still popular though. As I stood there to decide what I wanted, more people formed a line behind me. A friendly, fun, and hard working staff was working. And while I ordered, their efficiency to get food to customer was very impressive.  I appreciated that. They kept the line moving and their hungry customers happy.
The Korilla BBQ truck mixes Korean food and flavors with Mexican. I think the idea is wonderful. Korean food is high impact flavor and spices and Mexican food has mastered the art of "travel food" with tacos, burritos, etc.

Shanghai Tide

Back to Shanghai Tide for AYCE hot pot. This place is very good for groups.
We had a large table in the back and 3 pots going strong with half spicy and half regular. Large platters of meat, seafood, vegetables, and noodles were passed back and forth. We went through so much Budweiser beer so quickly that they just brought over the case for us.

Amazing 66

For her birthday, Ms. Poutine Esq wanted a Chinese dinner, old school style. So large round table and family style dishes. Easy, right? Wrong! It would be in Manhattan Chinatown. Shucks! I haven't had a proper dinner in Chinatown in so long. This would be an issue. Besides, I think the better Chinese food can be found in Brooklyn and Queens. So after some digging and scouring of blogs, I settled on Amazing 66.
Located right on Mott Street, it was right near my favorite Chinatown joint, Big Wong. Things were looking up already! When we arrived, the table was ready and we looked over the menu. My friend didn't know what to order and they didn't speak (or refused to speak) Chinese. So I went and ordered the menu for the entire table. I asked the birthday girl what she wanted and threw in a few of my favorites as well.

Virgil's Real Barbecue

Lunch with certain coworkers always leads to gutbombs and I love them for it. Instead of our usual burger conquest, we went for barbecue. Virgil's is close and easy. I haven't been there in years so I also wanted to see if I still liked or disliked it.
Virgil's is located in Times Square and is always filled with people. No worries though. It's really big and spans for more than one floor. It will fit large parties easily. And due to its tourist attraction-esque feeling, the portions are VERY large. So order with the notion of not finishing your meal. I'm  not kidding around people. Unless you're a garbage can in human form, be warned.

Lunch Week 14: Vegetable Calzones

So every Sunday, I head over to the kitchen to whip up a big batch of food for lunch next week. Yes, I brown bag. And I almost always do it, unless I become too busy to even buy cold cuts from the deli. I do it for several reasons being health, finance, and laziness. Now, you may think that spending hours on a day off to prep and cook five meals at once is hardly lazy. But let me remind you, I hate it when the time comes to decide what to eat for lunch every day. I work in Midtown so the choices are endless. My problem, the more choices, the harder it is for me. So it's much easier for me to have my lunch ready and already decided.

So my lunch for the week: Vegetable Calzones
This past weekend, Mr. M&P and I made homemade pizzas. I'm still trying to master pizza dough and I just bought a new pizza peel to help ease my pizza transfer from pizza stone in oven to cooling rack. Since I already went ahead and made a large amount of dough as the recipe said, I used the rest to make calzones for lunch. Why calzones and not pizza? For ease of transportation.

Tuesday Nights: Ugly Kitchen

Towards the end of one year, my friends thought that we weren't hanging out enough. It's true, we weren't. So they started Tuesday night get-togethers. Every Tuesday, we'll pick a bar to drink, eat, and hang out for a couple of hours. Whoever can make it will attend. If you're busy, it's okay. There's always next week. So this is Tuesday Nights on Tasty Eating where you will find bars that serve food and how we like them.

On this recent Tuesday Night, we headed out to: Ugly Kitchen
What an interesting name. I have never heard of this place but as always I am willing to try. I looked at the menu online and their happy hour deal is legit. Half off beer, wine, and cocktails until 9pm. Wow, that's one of the longest happy hours that I've seen. And to round it out, the food wasn't half bad either.

Cha Pa's

A few of my coworkers and I decided to head out for lunch one day. We were celebrating the self-termination of one of our friend's job. He hated it and moved onto something better. Yay! So I suggested Vietnamese to change things up a bit. We all arrived to a fairly busy room but luckily we made reservations.

Brindle Room

Ever since my first meal at Brindle Room with the Feisty Foodie, we've been wanting to go back. I wanted to try the burger on its own and she wanted her friends to claim it as the best burger. We've had recent disagreements. So with TC, TT, FF, DLS, and Mr. M&P, we all headed out to finally claims which burger is better: Peter Lugers or Brindle Room.

Grilling: Burgers and Sausages

Ah the weather is warmer and the grill is out in full swing. Burgers and sausages are the first things to  be fired up. Simple. Delicious. Satisfying. Here's my cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Capizzi

A few months ago, the Feisty Foodie, Fritos and Foie Gras, and I went on a girls' night out. We were thinking pizza and beer. Due to some mishaps, our date was postponed until not too long ago. We picked Capizzi for the location and intrigue. Neither one of us have visited this pizza place before and yet we were all curious about it.

Parsi Birthday Dinner

Okay this should be my last birthday post of the year. Phew! That was a lot, wasn't it? Lots of food celebrated with lots of friends and family. To be honest, I used to hate my birthday. But recently, I treasure them since I've been surrounded by such wonderful people in my life that want to celebrate it with me. You guys know who you are and thanks!

And now back to the food. What is a birthday without a Parsi Indian dinner? Oh yes, this menu is completely designed for me by me. It's one of the few times that I get to eat my favorite dishes all in one night. Oh to be pampered!!

Back to Asian this week. I wanted to make an eggplant casserole dish that I often get at Chinese restaurants. It's fried eggplant braised in black bean garlic sauce. It's delicious! They also make a version with fried oysters and fried fish. Both also very flavorful and delicious.

So my lunch for the week: Salad
Lunch this last week was quite boring. Just a ho hum salad with spring mix, celery, tomatoes, scallions, mushrooms, cucumbers, feta cheese, and hard boiled eggs. My body felt like it needed a cleansing so I thought salad would do the trick. Read more...

Going Greek this two weeks ago with Spanakopita on the menu. A mixture of spinach and feta cheese stuffed in delicate layers of phyllo dough. However, to mix it up a bit, I made some with sauteed mushrooms and scallions as well.
